Soviet Russian USSR Medal Order of the Red Star in the 3.7 million serial number range, "rotating-tool" /????????? Variation, with research, awarded to a Major of the 40th Army Headquarters, for heroism in Afghanistan in 1986! While leading a 257-vehicle convoy on the treacherous Ghazni-Kabul road (a bloody highway described in Lester Grau's "The Soviet-Afghan War"), the recipient bravely and skillfully commanded the convoy's defense, employing the convoy's escorts, as well as air and artillery strikes.

The Mujahideen were beaten back into the mountains with casualties while the convoy completed its missions unharmed. The recipient was also cited for excellence in planning combat operations & convoy missions over a period of 14 months. Condition is outstanding, as seen in the images! Winner will be provided with full archival research (4 pages including Award Record Card and Citations) in electronic format.
