Vlasov surrendered, defected to the Germans, and formed the anti-Soviet Russian Liberation Army from Russian POWs. He was captured by the Soviets in 1945 and executed in 1946. Ovchinnikov served in the 1004th Rifle Division, 305th Rifle Division, which took up a position in miserable, swampy terrain on the opening of the salient created by the 2nd Shock Army. Opposing it were forces of the 2nd SS Infantry Brigade, which included both regular SS regiments and Latvian, Dutch, Flemish, and Norwegian battalions. It appears that Ovchinnikov was wounded during an offensive against these SS units that was intended to keep open supply lines to the 2nd Shock Army.
Ovchinnikov later served as a battery commander with the 327th Rifle Division, which participated in the Petsamo Operation. Condition is as seen in the images! Great, except for a ding to the enamel at the end of the 5 o'clock ray and a small chip to the end of the 7 o'clock ray (not obvious looking at the award straight-on). The serial number of the award is authentic and matches the serial number shown in the archival documents. If you require confirmation in advance, please send me a message, and I will gladly provide images.
Reasonable, rational collectors who are genuinely interested in the history represented by an award will make the effort to reach out and will quickly find that everything is in order. Winner will be provided with full archival research (2 pages - Award Record Card) in electronic format, unredacted, in color, plus an archival portrait of Ovchinnikov, also in electronic format. Professional English translation of the Record Card is available if requested before receipt of item.Links will be provided to records of Ovchinnikov's wounds, as well as to unit documents regarding the battles around Myasnoy Bor. I will answer all coherent, respectful inquiries to the best of my ability.
